what a splendid record of thorough-going ignorance, persuasion, irrational belief, enslavement to religious rules, misinterpretation of the bible, false alarms, historical revisionism, misleading instructions and plain deceit.. 140 years of wasting the lives of millions of people suppressing their natural ambitions to live fulfilling lives, discouraging them from having children for the sake of nearness to the fairy tale armageddon, keeping jw children uneducated and dependent on the state to end up in old age on welfare and in poverty-- the list goes on.. what a record of destroying billions of trees to print this useless cult propaganda, getting a record distribution figure for numbers in the publishing world and for what?

What is the longest distance you drove to attend a summer Convention?

for some reason, we were assigned this outdoor stadium for our 1975 four-day summer convention.
our congregation was located 90 miles away on the north side of chicago.. some congregation members stayed at milwaukee hotels for the four-day convention.

Here is a photo of the Milwaukee Brewers ( AMERICAN BASEBALL TEAM) County stadium. For some reason, we were assigned this outdoor stadium for our 1975 four-day summer convention. Our congregation was located 90 miles away on the north side of Chicago.
Some congregation members stayed at Milwaukee hotels for the four-day convention. Since my parents and some congregation members were either too cheap/ or didn't have the means to pay for hotels and meals, they decided to charter a bus to Milwaukee for the four days. The chartered bus picked us up at 7.a.m. every morning at our Chicago Kingdom Hall and drove 2 hours to Milwaukee for our 9:45 a.m. starting time.
Since the bus arrived around 9 a.m. each morning in Milwaukee, all seats that were shaded/partly shaded or had a cover from the blazing sun in the middle of July were all taken. We had no choice but to sit on the outfield seats ( which were in full sun, all day long). Imagine sitting in the blazing sun all day long with a jacket/ tie or mothers having to take care of small children in the oppressive heat. Talk about sunstroke!
The convention meetings ended around 5 p.m. We would get back on the chartered bus around 6 p.m.and drive back to Chicago for another 2- hour drive. It would be around 8:30 p.m. each night that we would arrive back home. We ate dinner around 8:30 p.m., went to bed and did the same routine for the next 3 days.

Minimus...In Mexico and third world countries ( like the Dominican Republic ) bartenders are supposed to break the legal and real alcoholic manufactured bottles after they are empty. Instead, hotel and restaurant bars fill up the legal alcohol bottles with counterfeit alcohol and serve it to vacationers who have no idea they are drinking poison.

never did we read any chapters from genesis to revelation and discuss the true meaning of what we just read.

Some years ago in what was then called the "Theocratic Ministry School" the first talk or "Instruction talk" was spent reviewing the material from the "All Scripture (si)" book which contained 66 chapters discussing a particular bible book. I seem to recall there may have been several weeks spent on each chapter.
Yes, the first talk covered a few consecutive chapters in a sequential bible book, and the number 2 talk was a bible reading of a small, select few verses of one of those chapters, in the book, covered by the number 1 talk. This was done weekly, taking (i believe) about 2 1/2 years or so to cover the entire bible. You were supposed to read the entire bible chapter selections in your personal preparation for the meeting. So only 15-20 minutes were devoted to an average of 5 or so chapters of the bible, per week. Enough time to skim, but not nearly enough time to delve in.
I was at these meetings where the Watchtower Society spent one hour each week showing you how to present the Watchtower and Awake magazines but only spent a few short years and spent a short amount of time (a half-hour) teaching (skimming) through the 66 books in the Bible in a question and answer session. I think that this book was the only material that the Society ever printed that actually came close to Bible teaching.
Now, we know that the Watchtower Society is just a real estate and book publishing corporation.

By hopscotching the Bible (or any other book for that matter) and reading only isolated statements or quotations, you can make the book say anything you want.
Here is a prime example:
From October 607 B.C.E. to October 1 B.C.E. is 606 years. Since there is no zero year, from October 1 B.C.E. to October 1914 C.E. is 1,914 years. By adding 606 years and 1,914 years, we get 2,520 years. There is a reason JW's don't do that. The Watchtower's method of interpretation is to bounce around the Bible pulling verses out of context and without regard to what sort of book (history, poetry, prophecy) it is, who the author was, or the intended audience. The Germans have an expression "Kreuz und Quer" "Cross and cross" or perhaps "back and forth."
Jeff...You hit the nail on the head. '' back and forth'' teaching was the wording I was looking for. Everything is read out of context and sometimes only the ending or beginning of a scripture is read to fit their interpretation.
I remember a Ministry school book ( 1980's) that had all the books of the Bible (where we read at home and made comments at the meeting). We studied the Bible books only at a quick glance. Does anyone remember that book?
